INTERIOR DESIGN - CHIC DINING AREA

Hi! and welcome to Splendor! :)

If you are new to my site first, THANKS so much for passing by! yay! and second, you should know that my husband and I moved into this small condo in DC almost a year ago; and since then I've been working - and enjoying - its transformation.

I believe that small spaces deserve BIG style. Each corner counts when it comes to making your home suitable for your life style and pleasant to the eye. Building a home is such a personal and important process (tweet this! For me, one of the biggest challenges was moving from a big dining room to a tiny dining area that is next to an open kitchen and steps away from our front door. Believe me, seeing the kitchen sink while entering the apartment was not my idea of a glamorous welcome to our home (sigh) But! that's what interior design is to me, making the most out of what you have.

I ADORE black and white, and a bit (actually A LOT) of drama in my designs. Glam spaces make me happy. So, the first thing I did before even moving in was painting the walls in rich whites and a dramatic dark paint (BJ - Deep Caviar if you are wondering) to give some strong character to the area, as well as help divide spaces. It's a win-win situation. After that, it was all about adorning it. I placed this gorgeous and modern chandelier which was my personal house warming gift; and actually the only statement piece I've got for this space. I LOVE IT and feel so glamorous when turning it on. It has a dimmer! so it's perfect for setting any party mood on. You get the idea ;)

As I mentioned, there is an open kitchen and a tiny entryway situation (Oh! DC living). The foyer transformation definitely helped putting the whole room together while defining 3 areas: the entrance, the kitchen, and the dining room. No more blended spaces! :) To make the most out of each area I placed a couple of bar stools which are great for company while you cook; and I worked on creating a functional nook to drop off keys and check on my lipstick before leaving the house (las cosas importantes, querida). If you have a table and a mirror, you have endless decor possibilities! The big lesson learned is that paint and wallpaper can definitely bring some extra magic to a room.

So, what do you think?! This is our dining area first look. I call it "almost complete" because - conociéndome - it will keep changing. Design is just so much fun! :) And, for you to get a better idea of what the place looked like when we moved in, here are some before pictures.

Would love to see your comments. I'll be sharing much more of my home in Instagram. And stay tuned for a complete summer Home Tour. Thanks again for passing by! xx.

Easy Home Office Styling

I don't know if this happens to you... but my decoration process always EXPANDS around my house. Basically, when I get in the "styling mood" (that's a thing, right?) I get attracted by several corners and rooms in the house that in my mind need some change. I told you before! This is an endless process.

What happened is that I started my Holidays' Decoration - which I'm still working on! So stay tuned for a full reveal of my house haunted by shiny christmas ornaments! - and suddenly I felt the urge to do some styling everywhere I passed by. Home Office it is then! This room needs SO MUCH attention because is a) my home office, b) a guest room, and c) the most cluttered room in the apartment after the move. BIG CHALLENGE. I go poco a poco and some long weekends just work better than other ones :) So, take a look at the progress in my Home Office.

I keep inspiration everywhere (like my Comparte Felicidad! pretty booklet) And the basics for the season: brand new ribbons and jingle bells from Target for amazing gift wrapping :)

Bookshelves must ease your work! I keep my favorites items, go-to books and magazines in accesible places. Can you spot the cooking books on the bottom shelf. Yeah, it's not my biggest priority...

You might not know this, but I struggle every time I go to a friend's place. Why? Because I'm constantly thinking of moving furniture or styling a bookshelf! Yes, your bookshelf... So, if I haven't tried to convince you to move stuff around in your place yet, consider yourself lucky. Or! if you actually love the idea just LET ME KNOW!! :) I'll go right now!

These BEAUTIFUL gray and black canvas were a very special gift from my cousin-by-marriage who's no longer living in the area (Becca! I miss you so much!) I knew they needed a special place in our new home, and I'm so glad to enjoy them everyday!

Also, confort goes first. I originally bought this rug - and the chair - and those vases, actually (HA!) for the bedroom. But hey! I spend a decent amount of time on my desk and nothing beats working on a place you really love! I keep changing the decor and bringing my favorite pieces from around the house here. Call it luxury. I just need to beautify my space.

This pretty box works perfectly for hiding chargers and cords. I love the look and how big it is. It keeps the space clean and looking pretty.

Lastly, here's a picture of our camouflaged TV. It's only used when we have guests over and I actually think we should get rid of it. Yes! I said it! One TV in the house is enough.

So, here's one corner of our guest room /studio/ home office! I still need to work on the whole thing and get it ready for some Holiday's get together (!) Talking about personal deadlines and challenges... What do you think of it so far???

Stay tuned for more updates on my home! This is going to be a busy month.

Thanks again for reading, guys! Enjoy your Holiday Season!! xoxo!

One Room Challenge - Week IV (OMG!!)

Hello there!

Welcome to my page! If this is your first time here you have to know that I'm immersed in the One Room Challenge craziness these days. What is it? Well, a bunch of fabulous designers and bloggers transforming one room in 6 short - ridiculously short!! - weeks. This is week 4 for my Chic Master Bedroom project, and OMG! it's been a hard week. You can see my previous posts and progress here, here and here.

So, here we go again... this week was full of ups and downs, endless hours of shopping, getting packages, trying new items, returning the items, getting them in a different color, trying them again - you know how it goes. At some point I was completely overwhelmed.

Forget it!

I'm not doing this anymore.

This is INSANE.

And then I remembered that I bought those amazing pillows that are still in the trunk of my car! And that the curtain rod still has to get installed! OH MAN!!! I kept going for the sake of beautiful pillows and curtains, I guess...

I've been desperately looking for the perfect set of sheets and light fixtures. I almost picked up a vintage one I saw at a thrift store, but I decided to go a little bit more sober with a classic semi flush one. Black and white all over the place. I hope it looks as pretty when it gets installed! :) Right now I'm waiting and waiting for the mailman to knock on my door with this beauty.

The other big thing about the One Room Challenge is the amount of inspiration and cool ideas around. I really recommend checking on all participants. Seriously. They are such a bad influence! haha! I mean, every time I see one post I came up with another idea and cool project to include in my list. You see? This is the reason why I feel so behind!

Latest crazy idea: WALLPAPER!!! Can I make it happen in 2 weeks??? I really don't think so, but hey! I ordered some samples and LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I think I'd go for the black one. It's so perfect! Check it out.

So, even if the wallpaper is not happening I will continue with my TO DO list which looks somehow like this:

  • Put up rods and curtains. Check if they actually look as good as I thought.
  • Decide on wallpaper / paint. Paint / place wallpaper!
  • Frame DIY art. Put it up.
  • Find the perfect sheets. Now.
  • Wait patiently for light fixture to arrive. Call the store to make sure it will get here on time. Be nice to customer service. Put light fixture up.
  • Finish gallery wall.
  • Think again about the full length mirror - the only thing I promise to the hubs and haven't gotten yet (!).

That! (phew!) I have to say though, it was SO MUCH FUN to open the brushes box and paint again. I forgot how much I loved it, and I'm definitely going to continue doing so :)

Thoughts?? What do you think of the wallpaper crazy idea?! Shall I do it??

Thanks so much for the support!!

This has been an amazing experience :) If you want more details on my progress and challenges follow me on Instagram! Also, check for #oneroomchallenge. You won't believe the amaziness around it!
