Kitchen Cabinets Organization

Let me tell you, this moving into a new place is fantastic / so overwhelming. It takes some time to decide where things are going to go and what's the best way to organize them; and once you think you figured that out you find something else that fits better into that space! move everything around and start all over again (phew!).

Luckily, I'm the type of person who truly enjoys organizing - my friend Yas saw a picture of all the unopened moving boxes in my kitchen and said: "Hey, that's like Disneyland to you!" and she's right! :) I love playing with drawers, cabinets and everything in between. The messier, the better (me conoces bien, amix!) Then, I thought of documenting the organizing process of some areas at home and share it with you all.

I took the pictures above when the top shelf was already full. I used personal categories for organizing these cabinets: First level: "daily use + favorites", Second level: "serving plates, bowls and similar", and Third level: "plates we don't use that often".

The kitchen was the first thing I started organizing. I needed to find my favorite coffee mug and plug in the coffee maker ASAP. You know, priorities. But then, I found these tall cabinets where my cappuccino mugs were going to get lost; and piling them was definitely not an option. The solution? adding some extra shelves and baskets. I found these fantastic ones at the Container Store. They have the greatest collection of organizers for upper and lower cabinets, pantries, refrigerators... you name it! It was a bliss to choose the perfect ones for my kitchen cabinets. What do you think?

i consider myself and organization freak. I ADORE looking at things neatly organized when I open closet doors and cabinets. Is that weird? There's something pretty about it; taking care of your stuff, and always knowing where everything is. It makes my life easier plus! it's a big part of any decoration and styling project.

So here we go! You and I together in this process. I know it's going to take some time to get everything ready, unpack and settle here and I can definitely use some advice. Would you share some of your tips with me? I would LOVE to know how you deal with moving, unpacking, organizing and so on. If you have an idea or tip please please please share it with me! I could use all of them right now, and maybe make a post about it :)

Thanks again for passing by. You are the best! Have a fantastic week.xx.

Splendor Packing List

It´s time to move on!

I love organizing, cleaning, emptying spaces, labeling, folding and all those things many people find annoying. Easier said that done. That’s for sure. So, if you are thinking how I manage to enjoy or even survive the process here’s my Ultimate List to Pack Beautifully:

  • REUSE BAGS AND BOXES - Remember every set of sheets come in these plastic bags with a zipper? Did you save that shoe box because it was so pretty to toss? Do you have tons of reusable bags because you always forget to take one when you go shopping? It’s time to use them all!

  • CATEGORIZE - Store similar items in bags, containers and boxes so it´s easier to find them when you unpack. Think: cables, remote controls, craft supplies, tablecloths and napkins, flower vases, hair products, etc.
  • LABEL EVERYTHING. LABEL YOURSELF - I’m serious here. You´ll be surprised by the amount of boxes and packages around when you finish packing. Create a list and number each package so you know what’s inside each of them and keep track when you move. This will ease the process of unpacking too - as you will know what to open first.
  • DONATE / TOSS / RECYCLE - Keep 3 big bags with you all the time, one for each of these purposes. Get rid of them as soon as they are full. This is a golden rule.
  • KEEP ESSENTIALS ASIDE - Fill a weekender bag with your essentials to survive for one or two days. You don’t want to be looking for your toothbrush inside 35 boxes. Think: clean sheets and towels, bathroom essentials, easy food, clean clothes and any of your favorite items you can’t live without :)

Ok! Well that’s a lot to do, but I promise it will be so worth it in the end. Don’t forget that wine and friends make everything easier. Manos a la obra!!

Do you have any tips for packing or organizing? What has worked for you in the past? Would love to learn from you!

Happy weekend!! xo.

5 Steps to Style your Work Space

April is here! Lots of things are happening in my life these days and I seriously need to get organized on all projects - especially the fun ones! So, first things first, I knew I had to set up an inspiring and fresh work space where magic could happen - and my work space was basically my dining table (seriously, every time). Here´s a before picture of my cluttered desk at home - not so pretty huh? Keep reading to see the big change!

I definitely was not taking full advantage of this room at home. And even though I liked the classic lines in our desk I never put time to style it properly (sad face!) it kind of stayed there being dark and unattractive, until now!

Luckily I was energized that day; went out and got some pretty accessories to transform the whole room into a bright inspiring area. I did it using these 5 simple steps:

1. Lighting: The most important part of a work area, especially if you work late or if you don’t have much natural light in the room. Look at this pretty lamp I found at HomeGoods. It was love at first sight.

2. Storage: Get creative! Besides files and folders, add small containers for clips, tacks and pencils. Use what you have around the house, and try reusing gift boxes, dishes and containers. Add an inspiration board nearby where you can also hang notes and to-do’s (those cork tiles are perfect for that!).

3. Working Area:Make sure you have room for creating. This desk has a drawer where I can hide my computer when not using it. There’s plenty of clean space to write, including a pretty tray that holds notepads and pens, and can be moved around to accommodate my needs.

4. Comfort: I moved this little bench to the side and use it as a place to put my purse, jacket or whatever before I sit down to work. I can access my stuff easily and always have a place for it - instead of using the couch or the floor (yikes!) Have you seen the fussy rug under my chair? It feels so good under my feet and adds some texture to the area.

5. Personalize it: Make the space yours! Bring flowers, pretty notebooks, your favorite washi tape, whatever that will brighten up your working routine and keep you going. Best thing about desks? You can always change their whole appearance with just a couple of new accessories, and give them a fresh look.

Do you have a similar project in mind? I keep re-arranging furniture and changing accessories in the house. This desk might get some transformations soon - which I’ll make sure to share with you ;)

Thanks so much for passing by! xo,
